This Primstar-2 update comes with following changes:

  1. NEW: Support for Blender 2.63
  2. FIX: Syntax Error in LSL generated Scripts (Multi Part Export)
  3. QUICKFIX: Bake tool Maximum 10 parts displayed(1) (needs improvement)

(1): The number of baked parts is NOT(!) limited. Only the number of displayed parts is limited to 10. It turned out that the Bake button would be no longer visible if the number of parts exceeds a certain screen height dependent value (Blender does not support a scroll bar in  popup windows)

Avastar 1 update 432

Avastar-1-dev-432 (ready for Blender 2.63):

Today we released another Avastar update. We tried our best to ensure that this Avastar release should work from Release 2.59 up to 2.63.

Here are the changes since the last update:

  1. NEW: Armature now always exported when available (fixes a Blender issue)
  2. NEW: added compatibility to Blender 2.63 API
  3. NEW: fix for rotated UV faces (small errors in the exported UV Map)
  4. NEW: partial fix for mesh distortions

Precision issues with Avastar's Mesh

We have found some serious issues with precision regarding rigged meshes. For example rigged attachments may get attached slightly away from their expected location on the character.

This issue seems to appear only if you create attachments for your SL Avatar. As long as you work with full characters and as long as the charater attachments use the same armature as the main character, these precision issues are either neglectable or do not show up at all.

Our current experiments point to some scaling issues with the Blender Collada exporter. We still need to find the cause of the problems. We will release a fix as soon as we got it. Sorry, there is no time estimate available for when the problem will be solved. Please be prepared for a few weeks.

Note: The roll out of the blender 2.63 support is not affected. So you will get Avastar for Blender 2.63 within the next few days.

Primstar/Avastar updates for Blender 2.63 delayed

Hi. We originally planned to publish the Avastar and Primstar addons
for Blender 2.63 just in time. But unfortunately some recent changes
in blender stopped our addons to work.

We have fixed the issues yesterday and are now testing the addons again.
That will probably take a couple of days.

Please be aware of that if you plan to upgrade to Blender 2.63.
I will notify you as soon as the new Primstar/Avastar updates
are ready for publishing.

Changes in our Support groups

Fighting Spammers

Dear members of “blender primstar/jass” and “blender avastar”.

We found that our chat groups have been massively disturbed by spam messages. These activities started around september 2011. We repeatedly asked to stop these activities in our groups and ejected the responsible spammer.

Public enrollment closed

But recently we have seen an increase of Spam activities. All our attempts to stop the spam have been unsuccessfull. So the only remaining alternative was to replace the open enrollment to our chat groups by an automated group joiner.

   

Automatic Group Joiner

We have meanwhile installed a Group joiner in the Jass-Shop. Here new members can instantly join our chat groups again. If you are not a group member, but want to join, then all you have to do is visit the Jass shop, then click on one of the group joiner panels. (look at the right side when you enter the shop)

After a few seconds you should get an invitation from “Boticita”. You then can instantly join the group and access it right away and start chatting. we have taken precaution that Albsalgar Magic will not be able to rejoin via the group joiner.

Bot messages in the group

Boticita is our new automatic Bot system. Boticita will take care of a lot of things. She will also occasionally show up in the group chat. Please note thather sole purpose is to organize and to inform. She will not be able to accept friendship offers. She will not react on IM’s etc. Please be patient with her, because she is an automated robot.

 

A word about spamming

We have by now understood that Linden Labs does not help us to stop spammers from doing what they do. We have been reporting Albsalgar Magic many times and never got any response or feedback.

We also have detected a few bugs in the Group Chat system of Second Life which make it possible for Spammers to keep on spamming although they have been ejected from the group and even muted. There is absolutely no way to protect ourself unless the bugs get fixed.

 

Apologize

So even with all our precautions we will most probably see spammers again and again. But now we can at least have a little control. Please understand that we take care, but we are blocked by our service provider to become efficient.

Avastar-1 update 418

Avastar-1-dev-418:

Today we released another Avastar update. We tried our best to ensure that this Avastar release should work from Release 2.59 up to 2.62.

Here are the changes since the last update:

  1. NEW: added Targetless IK posing system on all bones (1)
  2. NEW: Weight copy now has the option to use a continuous sub-mesh interpolation
  3. NEW: Apply mirror modifier if it exists before mesh export
  4. NEW: Scale applied before export of mesh (2)
  5. IMP: Modifier aware mesh info panel
  6. FIX: resetting distance constraint no longer necessary when scaling armature
  7. FIX: fixed the visibility of motion transfer ui
  8. GUI: moved expressions into object properties tab.
  9. GUI: moved Hand posture into object properties tab.
  10. GUI: moved animation export into render tab
  11. GUI: bone names for weight adjust now searchable menu from vertex groups
  12. FIX: fixed visual glitch with blender 2.62 with properties and default labels
  13. FIX: fixed parenting with automatic weights (3)
  14. IMP: improved the accuracy of the bvh loop calculation
  15. FIX: squashed may other smaller bugs :)

(1):  Targetless IK also has a new UI (panel) for

  1. adjusting the chain length,
    including rapidly setting it to the parent/whole limb/COG
  2. increasing and decreasing the chain length intelligently skiping over locked bones
  3. switching to either have the tip of the chain free or ‘clamped’ (keeping angle constant).

(2): Scaling no longer needs to be done manually.

(3): Now only usual SL bones are deform bones by default. Thus automatic weighting only affects the SL bones. In previous versions automatic weighted meshes got partially transparent when worn.

 

The future of JASS

State of today

Our Jass product series is based on Blender 2.49b. Until recently Blender-2.49b has been the only Blender version that was capable to create fully functioning exports for Second Life mesh builds. And it was the only Blender for which a fully working Sculpted Prim support was available with Primstar-1 and the JASS product series.

By now the situation has changed in several ways:

  1. With Blender 2.62 we again have a full Support for Second Life Meshes. So if you are doing Mesh creations, all you need is Blender 2.62 and you can do Mesh development.
  2. With the availability of Second Life mesh support, we now have a very good alternative to Sculpted Prim creations. So you now have the choice to go with Mesh or to go (or keep) with Sculpted Prims.
  3. With Primstar-2-dev-260 we provide full support for Sculpted Prims based on the Blender 2.5/2.6 series. So you can now fully work in Blender 2.62 without any drawbacks.

Taking all of this into account, we no longer see any benefit for you to use the Jass-products. Especially it does no longer make sense to continue the maintenance of Jass-Pro and Jass-Magic. In fact there has been no update for both products since about one year and we have only provided very few new tutorials for this product series within the last 6 months.

Cleaning up

And on top of all of this Blender 2.49 has not been developed further since about 2 years now and it is obviously at end of its lifetime.

So we have decided to clean up a bit. And here is our roadmap for the next 12 months:

  • 1-April 2012: The free Jass-Magic bonus package will be dropped from new Primstar-2 purchases (as its no longer needed as fallback)
  • 1-June 2012: Jass-Pro and Jass-Magic vendors will be removed. Jass-Pub will keep available as a legacy software but without warranty.
  • 1-June-2012: End of Lifetime for Jass-Pro and Jass-magic
  • 1-June 2012: Cancellation of “one on one” support for Jass-Pub customers (which was never guaranteed anyways)
  • 1-June-2013: End of support for Jass-Pro and Jass-Magic

Today we released another Avastar update. We tried our best to ensure that this Avastar release shouls work from Release 2.58 up to 2.62.

  1. NEW: Bake T-pose fixed. Added parent to armature option and split off in ui to separate box
  2. NEW: added a ‘find unweighted vertices’ button. Will report on status line and console and will drop into edit mode with unweighted vertices selected if they are found

Blender 2.62 supports SL meshes

Welcome Blender 2.62

Blender 2.62 is out. This is the first Blender release after 2.49b which fully supports Second Life compatible Collada export files. In the “COLLADA (.dae)” export module you will find a new option “Export for Second Life”.

The most important constraints for rigged meshes are:

  • The mandatory set of 21 bone weight groups has to be supplied 
  • All vertices of the meshes must be weighted.
  • The meshes orientation must be:
    (z: vertical axis | y: left-right axis)
  • Rotation must be applied (in Object mode)
  • Scale should be applied (in Object mode)
  • Collapsed triangles must be avoided in physics shapes

If you check this option, your rigged meshes (with or without joints offsets) will be exported compatible to Second Life as long as the meshes conform to the Second Life constraints.

Second Life now “Collada stakeholder”

In agreement with the Blender developers Second Life has become the current stake holder for Collada support. That means whatever future changes will be applied to the Collada module, it will be tested to keep the Second Life compatibility intact. This will currently be ensured by 2 new Blender developers

Quicktip for the import to Second Life:

  • Open the Importer. You are now in the “Levels of Detail panle (1)
  • Check if your weights (and if you use them) your joints offsets are there (2)
  • Proceed to theUpload  Options tab (3)

  • Now you are in the Upload options tab (4)
  • Check your weights (and if you use them) your joints offsets for import (5)
  • If you create giants or tinies you might need to find out their offset correction to avoid hover or sink onto the ground. (6)
